3 Tips for Art Portfolio Photography

Tip 1: Show off the art

When you are doing art portfolio photography you want to consider what is the best way to show off the art. All artwork is different so begin to consider not only how you want to display the artwork but how to show it off. There is no right way to take art portfolio photography. Certain pieces of art are going to need different angles and views. As the artist you have the power to decide what photo will work best- even if you are working with a photographer! Tip 2: Lighting

It’s hard to capture a great photo if the lighting is bad. Again, you need to think about what lighting will suit the artwork best. Does your art benefit from shadows or not? Should the lighting look natural or have a warm glow? Once you know what lighting you art needs you can begin to plan accordingly.

Tip 3: Edit

The final tip is to edit the final photos. Not every photo will be great and that’s okay. You don’t need 100 shots, just one amazing photo to grab people’s attention. When you are editing a photo you want to do corrective editing and not over-edit the images. You want the art to look like the art and not be completely different from the photo.
