The Best Acrylic Painting Supplies

 Best Acrylic Artist Paints

The best acrylic artist paints are Golden Paints. I love the paint it is often thicker (less water in the consistency), the consistency is richer/smoother, the paint will not fade as much over time, the pigments are stronger, darker, deeper colours (there’s more real pigments in the paint which is why the price is higher). Although it is a bit expensive, the quality is worth it!

Other acrylic paint I love are the brands Rheotech, Amsterdam and Liquitex Basics. You can learn more about my best acrylic artist paints in these two videos below!

Best Paint Brushes

I love Princeton brushes because they have a range of sizes and great natural hair. They are a fair price but are great quality. I love using a number 6 round brush, a flat one inch brush and a smaller round brush for details. These are my go-to brushes that get used most often!

I also like Artist Loft brushes. You can get a pack of small detail brushes that I use a lot in my paintings!

Best Paint Pens

I love posca pens because they are so versatile. They are great to add details, outlines or line work in paintings. You can write with them on many surfaces too! To watch a video about Posca Pens and how to use them-click the video below!

The Best Watercolour Paper

I love the Canson XL series for oil and acrylic paint and Brea Reese Acrylic Paper I found on Amazon. These are great papers that work well with acrylic paint and don’t wrinkle.

Favourite Canvas Boards

I have found great canvas boards at the Dollartree and that is what I use. I paint on canvas boards to experiment and play. I like them because they are cheap but still great quality and easier to store than canvases.

Favourite Canvases

I get most of my canvases from Curry’s or Michaels. I also like making my own with raw canvas that I buy from Curry’s and wood.

Favourite Palette

I like using a plastic palette with a lid on it so that I can seal my acrylic paint when I am not using it. This keeps my paint fresh and lasting longer. I like a long rectangular palette so I have lots of space to mix colours!

Favourite Easel

I like using a table top wooden easel because it doesn’t take up too much room in my studio. I got mine at Michaels. I like wooden easels because I find the quality lasts longer and they are less likely to break or bend like some of the thin aluminum ones.  Read about choosing what easel is right for you here!

Favourite Apron

I love painting in a lab coat. I got it from the thrift store they are also sold in university bookstores or online. You can watch a video about choosing the right apron for you -here!
