Should I go to school for art? You might be wondering what you should do for school and where you should go. Is art school the right choice for you? Let me help you with your decision of - should I go to school for art?

Should I go to school for art?

Here are some reasons why you should go school for art. Of course you need to be the one to make the decision. That is so important.

Often, art and creative careers get a bad rap. You might have family members that disprove and say things like, “you won’t make a lot of money.” “You won’t make a stable income.” “You won’t have a pension or health insurance.” It can cause worry and doubts to seep in.

But deep down you know that you are made for a creative career. And remember it’s your life. You have one life to live. So, make sure you are living for yourself; not to please other people like your parents.

If you are determined, hard working and passionate - you will be successful and I truly believe that!

So, let’s take a look at the reasons why you should go to art school and help you decide if art school is right for you.

Should i go to art school?

You're Creative

You have probably been told all your life how creative you are, maybe art is your best or favourite subject. You love creating things and there’s something about creating things that feels so free, so relaxing, and it just feels right.

That’s your purpose, talking.

You Have Original Ideas

If you’re a problem solver or enjoy figuring out things, a creative career is right for you! You have lots of original ideas and you are always feeling inspired. People come to you for advice because they know you have a different way of thinking. They enjoy your perspective and know you have original ideas.

You're Inventive and Innovative

A creative career is more than just painting and drawing. Art is so much more than that. Art leads to inventions and innovations. Art and creativity is a new way of thinking. It’s thinking differently or thinking outside the box. You have the potential and power to invent or innovate something that could be so useful and so helpful in the future. The future is yours!

You Have Strong Communication Skills

When you are making art, you are communicating with the world/the viewers. Art has the ability to tell stories, share political views ,or just make the viewer really stop and think. If you are strong communicator or a strong writer -choosing a creative career is a great choice!

You Want to be an Entrepreneur

There are many ways to make money as a creative career but a great way is being an entrepreneur. You get to be the boss and call the shots. You can make money with your art on physical products, digital products, prints, print on demand/drop shipping, teaching workshops, classes, or creating courses. You can write books, offer consulting, or coaching services, collaborate with brands and boutiques - the possibilities are endless! Being an entrepreneur can be a full-time income or a part-time income as a side hustle.

You're Passionate About Art

If you are passionate about art then it is truly your life purpose to do a creative career. When you are so passionate about something, you know deep down that you will regret not doing it in the future.

Living a life of regrets isn’t fun or fulfilling. You only have one life - so do what you feel called to do and passionate about!

This is your dream you feel it in your core

If you feel it deep down in your core then you know it’s meant to be. It’s destiny. If you try to please others and become a doctor or lawyer it probably won’t turn out the way it could have been. You need to do what makes you happy. Don’t choose a job because it’s the right thing to do or so you don’t want to disappoint your parents. Don’t choose a job because you could be good at it or you could do it well.

Do what lights you up. Do what excites you.

Think about how you want to wake up in the morning. Do you want to dread going to work everyday? Or do you want to be excited about what you get to create and about the opportunities that are to come.
