Painting Supplies for Simple Bumble Bee Painting

-Canvas or canvas board

-Cup of water

-Palette

-Cloth rag

-Acrylic Paint - cadmium red, mars black, titanium white, cadmium yellow, cobalt blue

-flat one inch brush

-round detail brush

-round #6 brush

-bubble wrap

-practic wrap/mesh

Steps for Simple Bumble Bee Painting

Step 1 - Paint the background

You can begin by painting your canvas or paper in cadmium yellow paint using a flat brush. You can do two coats of paint. You could also mix in some oranges and browns if you would like or add some darker or lighter yellows by mixing white or black to the yellow.

Step 2- Paint the Texture in the Background

You can use some plastic mesh from fruit like lemons or tangerines and some bubble wrap to paint some cool beehive texture. Paint the bubble wrap with oranges, browns and yellows and press it down on your surface. You can also place the mesh down and paint in between the spaces with your chosen beehive colour. You can add the texture in sections and allow some of the yellow base to show through.

Step 3- Paint the Bee

Next you can begin to paint the bee. It helps to paint from a reference photo of the bee. You can draw your bee outline in pencil first before painting. To paint the bee use a small and thin, round detail paint brush. You can paint details of the wings with a bit of silver or white paint. You can also choose to draw the bee in Sharpie or a paint pen like Posca.
